The Jefferson Apartments building was built in 1925 and is listed with
the National Historic Register. This all brick apartment complex was built
in the Spanish-Romanesue style. The horseshoe plan places the courtyard on
East Chestnut, opening to the South. Center bays of wings fronting on
Chestnut feature a central Tucson pilaster on each floor between round
arch windows and stuccoed spandrels. Raised brick quoins articulate tower
at each conner.
It is located on the conner of Merrimon Ave and East Chestnut Street with a
short walk to downtown Asheville, NC. This three-story building has 21
apartments including 6 apartment that were added on in the 1970s in the
lower level. There is one studio, 5 one-bedrooms, 9 two-bedrooms and
6-three bedrooms apartments. All the two and three bedroom apartments are
on the upper floors and have hardwood floors, gas heat and range between
900 and 1200 sq. ft in size. Some of these units have outside balconies. A
laundry facility is one site and parking is provided in the rear of the
